{"id":936,"date":"2008-11-22T09:56:32","date_gmt":"2008-11-22T13:56:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.berkshirelinks.com\/berkshires-news\/?p=936"},"modified":"2008-11-22T09:56:32","modified_gmt":"2008-11-22T13:56:32","slug":"tanglewood-schedule-august-14-20-2009","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/idealpoetry.com\/rwc\/tanglewood-schedule-august-14-20-2009\/","title":{"rendered":"Tanglewood schedule, week 7, August 14-20, 2009"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The schedule for the seventh week of the <strong>2009 Tanglewood season<\/strong>,  August 14-20, 2009, features three guest conductors with significant ties to Tanglewood, <strong>Michael Tilson Thomas, Andre Previn, and Kurt Masur<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tanglewood Music Center<\/strong> alumnus <strong>Michael Tilson Thomas<\/strong>, who was a protege of <strong>Leonard Bernstein<\/strong>, returns to the Tanglewood festival for the first time since 1988. His first program, August 14, initiates a weekend highlighted by three great Romantic piano concertos, as he conducts <strong>Rachmaninoff\u2019s<\/strong> tempestuous <em>Piano Concerto No. <\/em>3, performed by <strong>Yefim Bronfman<\/strong>, on a program with <em>Shostakovich\u2019s Symphony No. 5<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>Tilson Thomas&#8217; second program is a project especially dear to his heart. <em>The Thomashefskys: Music and Memories of a Life in the Yiddish Theatre<\/em> is a musical homage to his grandparents, who were leading performers in Yiddish theater in the \u201920s and \u201930s (Aug. 19 and 20). This lively <strong>Ozawa Hall<\/strong> program is scripted and narrated by Tilson Thomas, who also plays piano and conducts. It features the original performers who helped with the show\u2019s creation in 2005: <strong>Judy Blazer, Neal Benari, Ronit Widmann-Levy, and Eugene Brancoveanu<\/strong>, all making their Tanglewood debuts. Pat Birch directs.<\/p>\n<p>Frequent Tanglewood guest <strong>Andre Previn<\/strong> returns August 15 to collaborate with one of his favorite soloists, pianist <strong>Jean-Yves Thibaudet<\/strong>, in <strong>Liszt\u2019s<\/strong> poetic <em>Piano Concerto No. 2<\/em>, on a program with <strong>Beethoven\u2019s<\/strong> <em>Symphony No. 4<\/em> and <strong>Ravel\u2019s<\/strong> <em>La Valse<\/em>.
