At concerts,<br \/>\nas I watch your fingers on the keys,<br \/>\nand how swiftly, how excellently<br \/>\nyou turn sheet music pages,<br \/>\ntrack the singer&#8217;s notes, cover the singer&#8217;s flaws,<br \/>\nI worry about whole lifetimes,<br \/>\nmost lifetimes<br \/>\nlived in the shadows of reflected fame;<br \/>\nbut then the singer&#8217;s voice dies<br \/>\nand there are just your last piano notes,<br \/>\nnot resentful at all,<br \/>\ncarrying us to the end, into those heartfelt cheers<br \/>\nthat spring up in little patches from a thrilled audience<br \/>\nlike sudden wildflowers bobbing in a rain<br \/>\nof steady clapping.
