{"id":788,"date":"2018-02-24T09:55:56","date_gmt":"2018-02-24T14:55:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/daveread.me\/?p=788"},"modified":"2018-02-24T09:55:56","modified_gmt":"2018-02-24T14:55:56","slug":"super-bowl-haiku","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/idealpoetry.com\/rwc\/super-bowl-haiku\/","title":{"rendered":"Super Bowl haiku"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Previous to landing a poem in the What Rough Beast series, my last score was an Honorable Mention! on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbur.org\/onlyagame\/2015\/01\/17\/a-call-for-listeners-super-bowl-haiku\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Only A Game&#8217;s annual super bowl haiku contest<\/a>. The show comes from WBUR &#8211; played touch football on the lawn outside the School of Communications when I was at BU.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/daveread.me\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/bu-comm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"612\" height=\"612\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-791\" \/><br \/>\nFor these to make any sense, you have to remember the big Deflategate kerfuffle &#8211; it has its <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Deflategate\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">own wikipedia page<\/a> &#8211; surely another sign of the apocalypse! My entries, the first got the Honorable Mention reading on the air:<\/p>\n<p>Hey Super Bowl Balls,<br \/>\nWelcome Hans &#038; Franz, Who Have<br \/>\nCome To Pump You Up!<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s Only A Game,<br \/>\nRelax Already, Let&#8217;s Don&#8217;t<br \/>\nOverinflate It!<\/p>\n<p>Ed. note: just occurred to me that the 2nd one would make a viable epigram if we had the balls to rebel against the strictures of a form borrowed from an alien dna pool and worked in what just now seems the best way out of this entire fiasco: blow things out of proportion &#8211; but it has 2 syllables too many, so overinflate is safe, even though no godfearin american talks like that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Previous to landing a poem in the What Rough Beast series, my last score was an Honorable Mention! on Only A Game&#8217;s annual super bowl haiku contest.
