McGuinn&#8217;s influence on popular music in America since the Kennedy administration is vast, but unfamiliar to the casual fan. He turned pro right out of high school in Chicago, got a job in LA playing guitar with the <strong>Limelighters<\/strong>, later toured with <strong>Bobby Darin<\/strong>, and by 1963 McGuinn was a <strong>Brill Building<\/strong> songwriter. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/idealpoetry.com\/rwc\/berkshires-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/roger-mcguinn1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/idealpoetry.com\/rwc\/berkshires-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/roger-mcguinn-297x3001.jpg\" alt=\"Roger McGuinn schedules Clark Art Williamstown, MA concert April 9, 2011.\" title=\"Roger McGuinn schedules Clark Art Williamstown, MA concert April 9, 2011.\" width=\"297\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-6799\" \/><\/a>The moniker <em>father of folk-rock<\/em> could be attributed to his idea of playing folk songs to a rock beat in <strong>Greenwich Village<\/strong> coffee houses after hearing the <strong>Beatles<\/strong>. The New York folk establishment couldn&#8217;t dig it, so McGuinn returned to LA, where he found kindred spirits at the <strong>Troubadour<\/strong>, namely <strong>Gene Clark<\/strong> and <strong>David Crosby<\/strong>. By January 1965 they&#8217;d been joined by <strong>Michael Clarke and Chris Hillman<\/strong> and, as the <strong>Byrds<\/strong>, recorded <strong>Bob Dylan&#8217;s<\/strong> <em>&#8220;Mr. Tambourine Man&#8221;<\/em> which rocketed to the top of the charts.<\/p>\n<p>A decade later (after disbaning the Byrds in 1973), <a href=\"http:\/\/rogermcguinn.blogspot.com\/2007\/11\/roadie-report-31-rolling-thunder-revue.html\">Roger was a featured performer on Bob Dylan&#8217;s Rolling Thunder Revue<\/a>. (Which spent a memorable day in the Berkshires: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.berkshirelinks.com\/2008\/08\/24\/bob-dylans-rolling-thunder-revue-party-mama-frascas-dream-lodge\/\">Rolling Thunder Revue at Mama Frasca&#8217;s Dream Away Lodge.<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>And Roger McGuinn was the first musician to employ the Internet in the service of music with the establishment of <a href=\"http:\/\/folkden.com\/\">The Folk Den<\/a> in 1995.
