CEWM programs are highlighted by the music of German romanticism, viola music of Dvo\u00e1k and Mendelssohn; performance by <strong>The Avalon String Quartet,<\/strong> and a celebration of <strong>Latin music<\/strong> for the festive season closing event.<\/p>\n<h2>Close Encounters With Music schedule &#8211; Thus Spake German Romanticism<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Saturday, March 12, at 6PM<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.berkshirelinks.com\/mahaiwe-performing-arts-center\/\">Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center,<\/a><\/li>\n<li>14 Castle Street, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.berkshirelinks.com\/great-barrington-mass\/\">Great Barrington, Mass.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This program includes songs by <strong>Mahler<\/strong>, chamber music by <strong>Strauss<\/strong>, and the world premiere of <em>Four Noble Truths<\/em>, composed by Jorge Mart\u00edn. A Latin Splash of Music and Dance<\/em> sizzles with the rhythms of <strong>Cuba, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and Spain<\/strong> in a most unusual and fun fusion evening. Stars from the chamber music and dance world share the stage:<strong> David Parsons\u2019<\/strong> choreography of <strong>Astor Piazzolla\u2019s<\/strong> <em>Grand Tango<\/em> (commissioned by CEWM in 2001), and composer-in-residence <strong>Jorge Mart\u00edn\u2019s<\/strong> hypnotic <em>Ropa Vieja<\/em> (also a CEWM commission), along with works by <strong>Ginastera, Villa-Lobos, and Granados<\/strong>.
