The first <strong>Boston Symphony Orchestra<\/strong> performance of this concerto was in 1883, but it wouldn&#8217;t be until 1978 that it was played in the <strong>Koussevitsky Music Shed<\/strong>, by <strong>Shlomo Minz<\/strong>; <strong>Midori<\/strong> gave the previous performance in 1987.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/idealpoetry.com\/rwc\/berkshires-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/7.30.23-Joshua-Bell-after-playing-the-Paganini-Violin-Concerto-No.-1-at-Tanglewood-Hilary-Scott-800x534.jpeg\" alt=\"Anna Rakitina leads BSO Tanglewood program with Joshua Bell playing Paganini Violin Concerto No. 1; Hilary Scott photo.\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-25706\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As much as we&#8217;re fans first and foremost of the orchestra, it is important every season to attend one or two programs that include master soloists, not only for the singular thrill of their playing, but to be reminded of the role of the instrument itself &#8211; its various qualities and how it communicates with its many instrument-siblings.<\/p>\n<p>Following intermission, the orchestra played <em>Music from the ballet Romeo and Juliet, Opus 64<\/em>, by P<strong>rokofiev<\/strong>. This selection offers perfect accompaniment to a sunny summer afternoon with friends.
