Directed by <strong>David Venturini and Francesco Gandi<\/strong>, T.P.O. invites the audience to the stage to explore a mythical world of sea creatures and ancient legends. <\/p>\n<h2>Dance Theatre of Harlem &#8211; July 9-13 &#8211; Ted Shawn Theatre<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Dance Theatre of Harlem<\/strong> performs <em>Past-Cary-Forward<\/em>, created for DTH by <strong>Tanya Wideman and Thaddeus Davis<\/strong>, to invoke the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance. The program includes <strong>Donald Byrd&#8217;s<\/strong>  <em>Contested Space<\/em> and late choreographer <strong>Ulysses Dove&#8217;s<\/strong> moving, elegiac ballet <em>Dancing on the Front Porch of Heaven<\/em>, danced to <em>Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten<\/em> by <strong>Arvo P\u00e4rt<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<h3>Reggie Wilson\/Fist &#038; Heel Performance Group = July 9-13 &#8211; Doris Duke Theatre<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Reggie Wilson\/Fist &#038; Heel Performance Group<\/strong> will perform <em>Moses(es)<\/em>, which was inspired by <strong>Zora Neale Hurston&#8217;s<\/strong> book Moses, Man of the Mountain as well as cultural explorations in Israel, Egypt, and Turkey. Moses(es) includes music by Louis Armstrong, The Klezmatics, Amahlokohloko, Ngqoko Women&#8217;s Ensemble, MaZarher, Aly-Us, Tiger, Bi Kidude, Southern Sons, The Blind Boys of Alabama, and traditional African-American spirituals Wade In the Water and Eli, Eli (Somebody Call Eli) sung live by the artists of Fist &#038; Heel Performance Group.<\/p>\n<h2>BALLET 2014: Principals and Soloists of New York City Ballet &#8211; July 16-20 &#8211; Ted Shawn Theatre<\/h2>\n<p><strong>New York City Ballet<\/strong> principal dancer <strong>Daniel Ulbricht<\/strong> directs and performs with an ensemble of New York City Ballet dancers, including <strong>Tyler Angle, Craig Hall, Robert Fairchild, Rebecca Krohn, Tiler Peck, Georgina Pazcoguin, Teresa Reichlen<\/strong>. The program consists of <strong>Christopher Wheeldon&#8217;s<\/strong> <em>Liturgy<\/em>, danced to Arvo P\u00e4rt&#8217;s Fratres; Two Hearts, a collaboration between Benjamin Millepied and composer Nico Muhly; Furiant created by NYCB Soloist Justin Peck; Sunshine, a solo for Ulbricht by choreographer Larry Keigwin; <em>a world premiere duet by Emery LeCrone<\/em>; and <em>Fancy Free<\/em>, the first ballet created by <strong>Jerome Robbins and Leonard Bernstein<\/strong> in 1944, which led to <em>On The Town<\/em>. <\/p>\n<h3>Dorrance Dance &#8211; July 16 \u2013 27 &#8211; Doris Duke Theatre<\/h3>\n<p>Dancer, choreographer, musician, and director <strong>Michelle Dorrance<\/strong> premieres a collaborative new show featuring b-girl <strong>Ephrat Bounce Asherie<\/strong>; innovative tap dance instruments created by STOMP and Dorrance Dance member <strong>Nicholas Young<\/strong>; and live music by vocalist <strong>Aaron Marcellus<\/strong>.  Dorrance will also serve as director for The School at Jacob&#8217;s Pillow&#8217;s 2014 Tap Program, June 23-July 6.<\/p>\n<h2>Mark Morris Dance Group and Music Ensemble &#8211; July 23-27 Ted Shawn Theatre<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.berkshirelinks.com\/berkshires-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Mark-Morris.jpg\" alt=\"Mark Morris Dance Group is featured on Jacob&#039;s Pillow 2014 season schedule\" width=\"360\" height=\"270\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-13256\" \/>Mark Morris is featured during an exclusive seven-show engagement, featuring talks, a concert by the MMDG Music Ensemble, music seminars and Mark Morris repertory taught in <strong>The School at Jacob&#8217;s Pillow<\/strong>. Each performance in the Ted Shawn Theatre includes <em>Festival Dance<\/em>, <em>A Wooden Tree<\/em>, set to words and music by <strong>Ivor Cutler<\/strong>; <em>Crosswalk<\/em>, one of Morris&#8217;s newest works; and <em>Jenn and Spence<\/em>r, all accompanied by live music.  A special <strong>MMDG Music Ensemble<\/strong> concert will take place in the Ted Shawn Theatre, Sunday July 27 at 11am.<\/p>\n<h2>Circa &#8211; July 30-August 3 &#8211; Ted Shawn Theatre<\/h2>\n<p>The Australian company <strong>Circa<\/strong>, directed by <strong>Yaron Lifschitz<\/strong>, has scheduled its new production <em>S<\/em>, with seven performers including gymnasts, physical theatre and circus artists, and contortionists who are accompanied by Finnish accordionist <strong>Kimmo Pohjonen<\/strong>, percussionist <strong>Samuli Kosminen<\/strong>, and <strong>The Kronos Quartet<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<h3>Dance Heginbotham and Brooklyn Rider &#8211; July 30-August 3 &#8211; Doris Duke Theatre<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Dance Heginbotham and Brooklyn Rider<\/strong> present the world premiere of <em>Chalk and Soot<\/em>, a collaboration between choreographer <strong>John Heginbotham<\/strong> and violinist and composer <strong>Colin Jacobsen<\/strong>. Inspired by <strong>Vasily Kandinsky&#8217;s<\/strong> book of poems <em>Sounds<\/em>, this evening-length premiere features imaginative, theatrical choreography; music performed by string quartet <strong>Brooklyn Rider<\/strong>; and the vocals by <strong>Shara Worden<\/strong>, the singer-songwriter and founder of indie-pop group <strong>My Brightest Diamond<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jacob&#8217;s Pillow schedule July 2014 Article by Dave Read.
