Tanglewood schedule August 15-21, 2014<\/h1>\n<\/div>\n

On Friday, August 15 Maestro Stephane Deneve<\/strong> conducts the BSO in music by Beethoven<\/strong> and Prokofiev<\/strong>, with Emanuel Ax<\/strong> as soloist in Beethoven\u2019s ever-popular Piano Concerto No. 5, Emperor<\/em>. After intermission, the Tanglewood Festival Chorus<\/strong> and mezzo-soprano Elena Manistina<\/strong> join the BSO for Prokofiev\u2019s<\/strong> Alexander Nevsky cantata<\/em>, music originally written for Sergei Eisenstein\u2019s<\/strong> film of the same name. <\/p>\n

There will be a complete concert presentation of Bernstein\u2019s<\/strong> Candide<\/em> on Saturday, August 16, with Bramwell Tovey<\/strong> leading the BSO and Tanglewood Festival Chorus, with vocalists soprano Anna Christy<\/strong>, mezzo-sopranos Kathryn Leemhuis<\/strong> and Frederica von Stade<\/strong>, tenors Nicolas Phan<\/strong> and Beau Gibson<\/strong>, and baritones Paul LaRosa<\/strong> and Richard Suart<\/strong>, as well as vocal soloists from the Tanglewood Music Center<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\"DelfeayoSwiss conductor Charles Dutoit<\/strong> leads the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra<\/strong> on Sunday, August 17, for the Leonard Bernstein Memorial Concert<\/strong>. The TMC Fellows perform an all-Russian program featuring Stravinsky\u2019s<\/strong> Scherzo fantastique<\/em> and the complete ballet score for The Firebird<\/em>, as well as Rachmaninoff\u2019s<\/strong> Piano Concerto No. 3<\/em>, with Russian pianist Nikolai Lugansky<\/strong>. Later the same day in Ozawa Hall, Ellis Marsalis, Jr.<\/strong> and his son Delfeayo Marsalis perform works from their first collaborative album, The Last Southern Gentlemen<\/em>. <\/p>\n

        The Last Southern Gentlemen<\/em> is a landmark recording for Delfeayo Marsalis \u2013 for the first time, a pairing of father Ellis Marsalis, Jr. with Delfeayo on a collaborative album. This concert will feature songs from the album including both standards and original compositions. Built on the intimacy of American ballads and the trombone\u2019s expressive mimicry of the human voice, The Last Southern Gentlemen is a firm acknowledgement of the existence and importance of these sweet, gentle sounds.<\/p>\n
