A. R. Gurney will direct Annette Miller, Jake Robards, Corinna May, David Adkins, and himself at Shakespeare & Company, in Lenox, MA on July 20, 2009 in a benefit performance of his play Ancestral Voices. The performance will be preceded by a 6:00pm reception featuring cocktails and light fare, followed by a champagne and dessert reception with the actors at 9:00pm. Curtain time for Ancestral Voices is 7:30pm, and the show runs approximately 90 minutes. Ticket prices are $75, $150, and $250.
The semi-autobiographical account of three generations, Ancestral Voices begins in Gurney’s hometown of Buffalo, New York, in the 1940’s. This magical, funny and wistful short play is written to be performed by five actors, portraying seven characters, seated before music stands.
