One of the most unusual events during the shoulder season in the Berkshires between summer and fall is the Tub Parade in Lenox. Today’s event is a recreation of something that the idle rich denizens of the Gilded Age did in display of their mastery of indolence and consumption for consumption’s sake. The same escapist mentality that makes Downton Abbey must-see TV for people with more money than sense bodes well for the popularity of the Lenox Tub Parade.
